It all began in Slick, Oklahoma, on August 26, 1935, when Lawrence and Verline [Arbuckle] Wilson rejoiced over the arrival of their second child, a baby girl. They named her Joyce Marie Wilson.
Joyce was raised in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, where she attended school. She developed into a beautiful woman, and later in life, she met a gentleman, Fred Lovett, and was smitten. Their attraction grew into love and their love blossomed into marriage. Their marriage was fruitful and multiplied by seven children.
Joyce realized the importance of a personal relationship with Christ and was a member of the Saint Matthew Baptist Church. She served the Lord faithfully, through her dedicated service as a Usher. She was a loyal friend, faithful servant of God and a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
Mrs. Lovett worked for many years, both at Okmulgee Terrace Nursing Home and Leisure Manor, as well. She provided Foster Care in her home and will be missed by all who knew her.
It was on Monday morning, September 29, 2008, when Joyce Marie Lovett, after 73 seasons, "heard a voice from Heaven, and surrendered her soul to Jesus." She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Nadine and a brother, Lawrence, Jr.
She leaves in God's care; her sons, Freddie & Sandra Lovett, Jr., Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Ray Charles Lovett and Larry & Patsy Lovett, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Leroy & Linda Lovett and Samuel Lovett, III, all of Okmulgee; her daughters, Irene & Marcus Vielma, San Jose, California and Serena & McKinley Rice, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; a sister, Barbara J. & Oliver Williams, Henryetta, Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three children she raised, Brandon, Daniel and Teandra; along with a caravan of other relatives and friends, and also the Saint Matthew Church members and usher board
The final tribute will be on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the St. Matthew Baptist Church. Rev. McKinley Rice, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Okmulgee.
You may visit Mrs. Lovett, as she slumbers in peaceful repose on Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM at the funeral home.
