"HERstory"
Judy Ann McQuarters
Much like her favorite flower, a single, long stemmed rose, graceful and elegant, Judy Ann Wagner McQuarters entered this world in Kansas City, Missouri on June 8, 1947. She was the eldest child born to Charles Ray Wagner and Freddie Mae Steele and spent her early years in Kansas City along with her younger sister LeVern.
Judy was always a dutiful big sister, loving, caring, sharing, and looking after her. Many of their afternoons were spent riding red and blue tricycles around their neighborhood. Judy accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Kansas City.
In 1952 Judy, LeVern and their mother Freddie Mae relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma where a new family began when their mother married her beloved childhood friend, Darnell Harrison, Sr. He immediately accepted Judy and LeVern as his own. Gradually the family blossomed with the additions of Darnell (Scooby), Stephanie and Tammee.
After settling in Tulsa, Judy attended Dunbar Elementary and ultimately graduated from the Historic Central High School with the Class of 1965. During this time she met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Edison (June Baby) McQuarters II and the two became one and were united in holy matrimony on November 20, 1965. To this union three precious children, whom she loved dearly, were born: Camelia Ann, Edison III (Shanky), and Lonnie Lee. She was blessed and her family continued to grow with the addition of five beloved grandchildren and one great grandchild, who fondly called her "Honey"
Judy's passion was children and caring for them which led her to be employed by Burroughs Elementary and Bunche Early Childhood Development Center. Her further fulfillment came through volunteering for John 3:16 feeding the homeless the first Sunday of each month without fail. Judy's true calling was achieved when she was selected to be a Developmental Disabilities Foster Parent to Charlie Johnson for a short time and Kendall Kearney for many wonderful years and adventures. Judy's faith walk continued with her uniting with From The Heart Ministries where she served as an head usher and ultimately joining Victory Christian Center where she recently graduated from the "Growth Track" class to become a Greeter, displaying her award winning smile.
Judy's sense of humor was always present and lifted the spirits of her family and friends. She was also known for her love of Victorian style furnishings, elephants, singing, drawing, "cupcake runs", and "McQUARTERS size" slices of cakes and desserts. Judy's elegance was exhibited by her taste in fashion; being a true fashionista, matching from head to toe.
Our sweet Judy set the example of being a true daughter, sister, mother, and friend; loving, caring, compassionate, giving heart, and not having one mean bone in her body.
Judy was preceded in death by her father Darnell Harrison, biological father Charles Ray Wagner, and beloved husband Edison McQuarters II. She was prepared and prepped her family for her transition to glory. Judy loved the Lord with all of her heart and at the time of her departure she proclaimed "Lift Me Higher"
