Kent was born on January 16, 1970, at Southwest Medical Center, to Pearline West and Mike Mason in Liberal, Kansas. Kent was raised by both parents and both grandmothers. Kent attended schools in several states Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas during his formal education journey. He graduated from Garden City High School in Garden City, Kansas. He later attended Garden City Junior College to play baseball for a short period of time.
Kent was baptized at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Port Arthur, Texas at an early age. He was active with the youth church groups while attending St. John.
Kent participated in sports all his life and he excelled in them at an early age. While in high school, Kent played football, basketball and baseball. He was an excellent athlete. While attending high school in Texas he broke his ankle during a high school football game and the doctor said he may not be able to participate again in athletics but through grit and determination he was able to return to what he loved. Kent was a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan, and he would let you know that.
Kent owned a car wash business for a short time in Port Arthur, Texas and worked construction until his physical health made it impossible for him to work.
He is survived by his mother Pearline West of Tulsa, OK, father Mike Mason (Lori) of Port Arthur, TX, sister Michelle Butler of Tulsa, OK, two brothers Levone Madden of Lubbock, TX and Toby Mason of Petersburg, VA , four daughters, Keonjane West of Wichita, KS, Shaniqwa Lewis of Liberal, KS, Kirsten Evans of Dickinson, TX, Lameka West of Little Rock, AR, and two sons, M ichael West of Port Arthur, TX and Kent West Jr. of Houston, TX and eleven grandchildren. Kent is also survived by a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Kent was preceded in death by grandparents Barney and Barbara Mason, Brack and Pearlie Mae West, and twin brothers Michael and Christopher Mason
The Hour of Remembrance for Mr. West will begin on Saturday, May 20th, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal Kansas.
The Burial will be in the sacred grounds of the Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal, Kansas.
You may visit Mr. West as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc. in Tulsa, on Thursday, May 18, 2023 between the hours of 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
