Obituary

Kevin Glenn Liggins entered this world in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 29, 1968. He was the eldest child born to the proud parents Calvin Liggins and Shirley Tiger.

Kevin was educated within the Tulsa Public Schools System.  He was a proud Hornet and graduate from Booker T. Washington High School in 1986. He attended many other higher education institutions including University of the Pacific (CA), Northeastern State University receiving a Bachelor's and Master's degree as well as Tulsa Community College and Oklahoma State University.

He was also known as a very good football player at Booker T. Washington. In 1983, Liggins and the Hornets were ranked third nationally, and state runners up.  In 1984, Kevin was a valuable member of the team, that finished as State 4A Champions in football. He was also a letterman on the Hornets baseball team. He went on to play football at the University of Pacific (CA).

Back in 1998, he met the love of his life Shawn Liggins. They married on July 28, 2001. The past 17 1/2 years were truly a blessing from the Lord. Although they did not have any children, their pet babies Jazzmin - miniature pincher (age 13) and Tedy - Shihtzu (age 8) filled their lives with lots of joy and love. In their marriage they didn't address each other by each other's name  or "baby" like most couples do. They always referred to each other by the name "Luv". This was their way of showing how much they meant to each other always.

Kevin was a very passionate educator teaching Mathematics. He loved teaching because he didn't want to sit behind a desk all day. He taught within the Tulsa Public School system at the Middle school and High School level for 22 years. "Mr. Liggins" as he was affectionately known touched so many lives throughout the years as he poured into the lives of young people. Sometimes he would be firm, yet caring for the students. He instilled toughness, wisdom and discipline. Throughout the years, the students as they got older would thank Mr. Liggins
for being so tough and helping them learn. They always told him he was the best Mathematics teacher ever!

He taught at Monroe Middle school, Project 12 Alternative school, Central High school and came full circle back to his alma mater Booker T. Washington. He also enjoyed tutoring individuals who were taking college Mathematics.

Kevin was recognized as Teacher of the Year twice at Central High school which was well deserved. He taught and mentored thousands of young people while striving to make sure they were successful in Mathematics. He was an outstanding teacher and a positive role model to many.

In his spare time he liked watching movies with his wife, visiting his Grandma Ruby, spending time with relatives and friends, listening to jazz music, tending to several home fish tanks, walking the dogs, watching sports, and LOVED to eat.

Later in life, his true calling came into his love for golf. In the summer months he would play golf once, sometimes twice a day. He could not wait for the next day to play golf. He would always tell me , "Luv, I put it on them boys today"!! meaning he really had a great golf game which ended as a result in beating everybody. He had gotten so good that he would beat his uncle "Bo" at times which those in Tulsa knew was tough to do.

Above all, his love for the Lord was deep in his heart. He would study several versions of the Bible to gain an understanding. He was a great teacher in Sunday School at Friendship Church. He would post on Facebook many thoughts that would help a person gain an insight and an understanding of the Lord. He was a true man of God.

Kevin G. Liggins was a great man of character, very kool, calm and collected. He loved and cared about a lot of people. He never met a stranger. He loved to laugh. He had a great sense of humor and was a blessing to many. He will be truly missed. Heaven has gained a beautiful soul.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Calvin and Shirley Liggins and brother Keith Liggins.

Those celebrating and cherishing memories are: Wife, Shawn Liggins, Pet Babies Jazzmin and Teddy Liggins (Tulsa), grandmother Ruby Nunley (Tulsa), nieces and nephew Lazarus Liggins, Donaraysha Tibbs (Tulsa), Twylesha Walls (Houston Texas), a special aunt JoAnn Tiger (Tulsa), mother-in-law Mary Taylor (Tulsa), in-law siblings Mitch & Cathey Taylor (Mesquite TX), Traci Taylor, Andre' Taylor, Christi Taylor (Tulsa), Denesha & Bobby Johnson (Fort Worth, TX) a host of relatives, close friends, colleagues and students.
