Mrs. Lanetta F. McIntosh, in her 69th year, "dozed into Eternal life" on Thursday, August 9, 2012 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On March 16, 1943, Lanetta Faye Edmond was born in San Angelo, Texas to Booker T. and Fannie Mae (Phillips) Edmond. As a youth, Lanetta attended Blackshear Elementary School and graduated from San Angelo Central High School in the spring of 1961. After graduation, she became a hairdresser/homemaker. A couple years later she met Rayford E. McIntosh, Sr., Sergeant McIntosh was stationed in Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas. On January 18, 1964, Lanetta married Rayford.
Lanetta and Rayford were stationed at Scott Air Force Base in Bellville, Illinois. It was during this time that they became the proud parents of two sons, Rayford E. (Jr.) and Ronald P. McIntosh. In the summer of 1972 they moved to Forestville, Maryland and eventually Rayford would later move to Bolling Air Force Base, in Washington D.C., so that he could be close to the Pentagon, where he worked for 7 years (Lanetta worked as a clerk in the BX). In the summer of 1979 Rayford retired.
In 1980 the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lanetta worked at Renbergs, Orbachs, Dillards, and Harolds Department Store(s) as a Tailor. After her sons graduated from High School, she started her own business, as a Master Seamstress where she specialized in making elegant dresses, curtains/drapes, wedding dresses, and provided personal fittings and hemming. Lanetta was also an expert cook, specializing in everything from chicken, enchiladas, everything with chicken in it, fried catfish, spaghetti/lasagna, gumbo and the list goes on! Lanetta was also a certified Lifeguard for 10 years.
Sis Lanetta was a devout member of Vernon African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and worked with the Young People's Department (Y.P.D.). She would bring her sewing machine to the church and make Y.P.D. uniforms for the children.
On Thursday, August 9, 2012, Lanetta took flight. No more pain, no more suffering, just peace.
Lanetta was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Lola Edmond Green. Lanetta leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Rayford, Sr., Her sons Rayford, Jr., (Teresa Faye) and Ronald(Bonita Morrison); two daughters, Jennifer Hankes McIntosh and Jada Jackson McIntosh; two granddaughters, J'Day Sharron McIntosh and Kyla Rae McIntosh; four brothers, Artie C. Edmond of Houston, TX, Booker T. Edmond, Jr., of Okmulgee, Bobby Edmond (Carla) of Abilene, TX, and Danny Edmond (Teresa) of Stratford, TX. She served as the neighborhood mother and mother to all. She also leaves a mighty cloud of family, friends and extended family.
The Hour of Remembrance will commence on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Vernon African Methodist Episcopal Church. Pastor Michelle Moulden will Preside.
You may visit Mrs. McIntosh, as she slumbers in sweet repose on Friday from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home in Tulsa.
