Obituary

Mr. Larry J. Shipp, in his 57th season, took wings and flew into eternity on Saturday morning, June 24, 2006 from the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Muskogee.

Larry was born in Taft, Oklahoma on January 21, 1949 from the loving union of Mattie Mae Jones and Emmitt Shipp. He was the first of five children. Larry was an obedient and loving child.

He attended school at Moton Public Schools and after graduation in 1966, he attended Northeastern State University for 2 years. It was during this time that he was drafted into the United States Air Force, where he served his country Honorably for 21 years. He was active during the Vietnam War. While serving his country overseas, he met and married Angelita and this union produced 3 children. This union was later dissolved.

By faith, he reunited with his sweetheart, Etoyce Mayo and on November 28, 1992, they were married. After returning to the United States, he began to work at the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Muskogee. He worked there for a number of years before his retirement in 2004.

Larry loved to cook and serve the community through his church activities. He served the Lord faithfully as a trustee and a volunteer for the Angel Food Ministries. He continued his works until God said "My Child, come home-your work is done."

Remaining to wait on the Lord; a loving and devoted wife, Etoyce, of the home in Taft; 5 daughters, Aretha [Michael], Muskogee, Kristina and Crystal, San Antonio, TX, Liz, TAft and Sarah, San Antonio, TX; a son, Christian, San Diego, CA; 9 grandchildren, Ashlee, Pierra, Adrian, Alfonso, Dantai, Adarya, Taiesha, Jalen and Avion; his mother, Mattie [Billy] Phillips; grandmother, Odell Jones; his brothers, Calvin [Bobbie] Fields, Moore, OK, Ricci [Starla]Phillips, Taft; his sisters, Joann Smith, Taft, Brenda [Ernest] White, Muskogee, Vicky Shipp, Taft, and Rhonda Shipp, Okmulgee, OK; along with a caravan other relatives and friends.

The final salute will be on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the Taft Resource Center. Reverend Ernie Anderson, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Taft will preside. Burial will follow with full military honors at the National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma at 1:00 PM.
