Larry Stephens, Sr., was born on May 11, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Bobbie Steeward and Mose Stephens.
Larry attended school in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. After graduating from Sapulpa High, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as an Engineman for 2 years. He attended Flipper Chapel AME Church and as a teen, became Assistant Superintendant of Sunday School and later became Superintendant.
After completing his service in the Navy, Larry became employed with Sun Oil Company, where he labored for over 30 years. During that time, He married Deborah Lynch. This union was blessed with 2 children, Sharone and Larry Jr.
Those who knew Larry will remember him for his love of family, cars, horses, traveling and his infectious smile.
Larry leaves to cherish his memory; his mother, Bobbie Ann Steward, Tulsa, Oklahoma; his father, Mose [Naomi] Stephens, Pasadena; a daughter, Sharone [Ron] Malone, Sand Springs, Oklahoma; a son, Larry [Tanya] Stephens, Jr., Houston, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Jarrod, Adrian and Reghyn Malone and Warren "Tre" Stephens, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 6 sisters and 7 brothers, Marcella Battle & Billy, Sapulpa, Gwendolyn Steward, Tulsa, Carl Steward and Elaine, Oklahoma City, Kenneth Steward, Carolyn Edmondson and Frank, Derrick Steward, Sharon Haynes and George, Rickey Stephens and Delores, Karen Ferrell and Charles, Anita Jo Stephens, Keith Stephens, Daryl and Ethel Stephens and Reginald and Erica Stephens; along with his "other mom", Lenora Stephens; and a caravan of other relatives and friends.
The final tribute is Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor Scott Gordan, Presiding. Entombment to be in Green Hill Cemetery in Sapulpa.
