Lawrence "Pumpsie" Johnson, Jr. was born December 25, 1935, to
Lawrence and Laura Johnson in IXL, Oklahoma. He was the third of four children. His parents and older brother, Leonard, preceded him in death.
Pumpsie received his education from the Boley Public School System . At an early age, he confessed his faith in Jesus Christ. He was a lifetime member
of the Pleasant Hill A.M.E. Church. He was also a volunteer member of the IXL Fire Department. He served his community well.
Pumpsie married Patricia Ann Payne on March 19, 1958. To this union, one son, Gregory Roshun, was born.
Although Pumpsie retired from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections
after serving 33 years of dedicated service with the State of Oklahoma, he had a greater love for farming and ranching.
The community of IXL has suffered a great loss and will greatly miss
Pumpsie's giving spirit, infectious smile, and friendly wave as he passes you by
on the highway.
