LERON WEST was born, August 24, 1932, to Willis and Maggie (Spears) West, in Haskell, OK. He was the fifth of five children.
He was baptized at an early age and remembered changing from the Baptist Church to the Church of God Evening Lights Saints.
After his family moved to Tulsa, OK, he started working as a newspaper boy at the age of nine. While delivering newspapers he also worked as a fry cook in the family business; Yvonne's Café.
LERON attended Tulsa Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1951.
On February 21, 1951 he married Eunice E. Franklin, and to this union, three children were born: LeRon Gregory, Julia Yvonne, and Franklin Aundre' West.
On September 3rd, 1979 Leron and Mary Leola (Hall-Laskey) married and added four more children to their legacy: Sherry D, Laskey, Bridget J. Laskey, James C. Laskey and Felicia O. West.
HOBBIES OF LERON: In his spare time (especially for his family), he loved traveling, bowling, and fishing.
LERON had a diverse career as a businessman. While working for Dickerson Goodman, he specialized in "interior decorating." The family's business that started with his father, Willis "Bill" West was Yvonne's Café on North Greenwood. With carpentry, construction, and design in his blood, he started his own companies called, "West General Contractors, and later C.C & W. Contractors." As the years went by, he was well known for building and remodeling homes. Throughout his career he always looked to uplift and mentor his family along the way. Within his entrepreneurship he employed grandsons; Jalil Lollis, Nabill Prince, and Keylan McGill. He was last employed as a licensed journeyman electrician via his eldest son, LeRon G. West's company; All Power Electric Company. During this time, Leron was afforded the unique experience of working with and mentoring his grandson, Akil within his golden years. His last solo project was the complete gut and renovation of his own master suite at 90 years old.
LERON'S faith in God propelled his earnest determination to share the gospel with everyone he met. He was called to the ministry in the Church of God Evening Lights Saints, where he worked with his family of faith. God called him to pastor at the following churches: Jackson Grove Baptist Church, Coweta, OK and Mt. Rose Baptist Church in Tulsa, OK.
REV. LERON WEST AND MARY WEST united with the Concord Community Baptist Church, Tulsa, OK, where he served in the capacity of Associate Minister and leader of the Men's Ministry with Dr. Dale Rolland as Senior Pastor. He loved his church family and was a faithful part of the church life and community and was a faithful servant and member. He also was a dedicated member and servant of the Kairos Prison Ministry for 27 years with 1000+ visits and four night in house prison services.
LERON WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS: parents Willis West, Sr. and Maggie West, brothers: Jimmie Lee and Willis West, Jr.; sisters: Julia Ann Burton, Bobbie Jean Black, Janet Stewart and a daughter, Dana Ligons.
LERON LEAVES HIS LEGACY: his wife Mary West, Tulsa, OK; sisters: Janice Stewart, Tulsa, OK and Dr. Mildred West Manning, Ft. Worth, TX. Children; LeRon G. West (Marlene), Julia "Yvonne" Williams of Tulsa, OK and Franklin Aundre' West (Connie), Tampa, FL, Sherry D. Laskey, Bridget J. Laskey (Franklin), James C. Laskey (Detra) all of Tulsa, OK, and Felicia O. Richard (Broderick), Oklahoma City, OK. There are a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren. Wonderful nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends that loved him DEARLY AND WILL MISS HIM TREMENDOUSLY.
Services for Mr. Leron West, 92 will take place Friday April 25, 2025 at 11AM at Gilcrease Hills Baptist Church - Tulsa.
Friends may visit Mr. West on Thursday April 24, 2025 from 1PM - 5:30PM in The Tulsa Chapel.
A wake will also be conducted Thursday from 5:30 - 7:00PM in The Tulsa Chapel.
