Obituary

Leroy Pierson was born on April 30, 1937, the son of Ollie Mae Mayberry and Arastos Pierson


Leroy was the oldest of ten children, trying to be an example for his siblings and grew up in Haskell, Oklahoma where he attended school and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. While at Booker T. Washington, he excelled in the game of Basketball.


After completing high school, Leroy joined the United States Air Force and became a communications specialist. He served his country honorably for 20 years.


When he retired from the Air Force, Leroy continued to serve his country, working as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service. He worked there for 20 years before his retirement from dedicated service.


Leroy married Deborah Waller on November 13, 1963. They have one daughter.


In his 75th year, Leroy Pierson received his "Earthly Discharge" and is now at rest. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, LeArtis Harris, three sisters, Marilyn Robinson, Geneva Carson and Anita Beys.


He leaves to lament his death; his dedicated wife of 50 years, Deborah; his daughter, Debbie Bozeman, Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Sylvester Hollis [Jeanetta], Haskell, Oklahoma and Charles Hollis [Rachel], Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; four sisters, Patricia Gist [John], Tulsa, Oklahoma, Arlene Melenciano, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mary Carson and Barbara Jackson, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Final Salute will be on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Wilson Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Coweta. Reverend Ruthie McKittrick, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM in the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, with Military Honors.

You may visit Mr. Pierson, as he slumbers at the funeral home in Muskogee on Tuesday from 12 Noon to 6 PM.
