Mr. Leslie Dwight Dinwiddie, age 69 and a resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Friday, April 14, 2017 from his home in Tulsa.
He was born on December 6, 1947 to Odell and Jessie Allmon Dinwiddie in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Leslie was the second child born from this union. When this marriage was dissolved, he and his brother, David were cared for by his paternal grandparents, Dave and Artemisia Dinwiddie, until his father and mother both chose other mates and remarried. Leslie and his brother moved with his father and stepmother, Thelma when they relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Leslie was a quiet, reflective person and in his early years, he excelled in gymnastics. He was given piano lessons at Latimer School of Music, he had swim lessons at the YMCA and he played the trombone in the Booker T. Washington High School marching band.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and he was baptized at the First Baptist Church North Tulsa by the late Reverend Calvin Stalnaker.
At Booker T. Washington High School, he was administered an IQ test and astounded the teachers by measuring among the upper 1% of all students that had been enrolled up to that time. Leslie's quiet nature had not revealed his true innate ability.
During his junior year in high school, he moved back to Taft, Oklahoma with his recently widowed grandmother, Artemisia. He enrolled in Moton High School and graduated in 1965. Leslie matriculated briefly at Langston University, but he enrolled at Oklahoma State University, where evidence of his extremely high IQ was clearly revealed when he became a regular honor student listed on the Dean's list. Leslie's restless nature led him to leave school. He lived in Oklahoma City with his brother, Victor Dinwiddie for a period of time before he returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he found employment with several cab companies. During this period, he felt the need to rededicate his life to Christ and was baptized at First Missionary Baptist Church in Muskogee.
Those who knew him well knew that he was a person with strong convictions and he exemplified an undying loyalty to his relatives and the persons he considered his friends. He religiously sent birthday cards to his loved ones and he always sent home promptly to arrive on the actual date.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie Allmon Warrior, who transitioned on the exact same day, April 14th in 1990.
Mr. Dinwiddie leaves to lament his death; his father, Odell; his stepmother, Thelma; his brothers, David, Victor [Lenora] and Michael [Vincent Parham]; his sisters, Edwyna Warrior Walker, Michelle Dinwiddie Segue [Taylor]; his devoted aunts, Elza Dinwiddie Boyd [Herb], Betty Allmon Willis and Lily Jean Russell; nephews, Cristopher Martin Dinwiddie, Jordan Alexander Segue; nieces, LaCeisha Walker Reddick, Leslie Michelle Dinwiddie, Jacqueline Segue O'Bryant; and special cousins, Darwin Johnson [Genetta], Benjamin Sourie [Shellye], Robert Grayson [Gwen], Annette Lewis, James Willis, Aljenae Wilson, Karen Green [Terrance], Ralph Russell [Trina], Brian Russell and their children and grandchildren.
