Leslie B. Ponder
Leslie entered this earthly realm on August 23, 1933, to his parents, Jack Ponder and Mary Ann Manuel-Holmes, as part of God's divine plan.
He attended Attucks and Banneker Elementary Schools and graduated from his beloved Dunbar High School in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Dunbar High School was a great source of pride for Leslie. As a young child, he became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Okmulgee, Oklahoma where he confessed his hope in Jesus Christ. He later became a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Leslie was a beloved father; he loved his children and taking care of his family. Mr. Ponder provided for his family by working for Brake & Clutch and Tulsa Brake & Clutch as a mechanic for many years. In his past times he enjoyed shooting pool. Mr. Ponder was a faithful member with the Elks Grand Lodge
#248.
On April 30, 2017, Leslie B. Ponder crossed over into eternity with all of the dignity and courage that was characterized throughout his life. He remained in control until illness slowed him down.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents Jack Ponder and Mary Ann Manuel-Holmes, his brothers, Jay Ponder, Harold Griffin, Leslie Holmes Jr., and Lovest Ponder; his sisters Earnestine Ford and Brenda Joyce Holmes-Bell. His very special cousins, Earnestine Washington and Martha Howard, Aunts Wilma Behn and Marie Stokes, and his late wife Jean Ponder-Williams.
Those left to cherish his precious memories: his children Adrian (Dena) Ponder of Tulsa, OK., Barbara Robinson of Stockton, CA, Maxine Barron of Fairbanks, AK, Willie (Naomi) Ponder Sr., Marguerite Shipp, Anthony Shipp and Pam Smallwood all of Tulsa, OK. In addition he also leaves his sister Anne Ponder-Brown of Atlanta, GA, brothers Worley (Betty) Holmes Sr., and Alois Holmes both of Tulsa, OK. A special person in his life Dorothy Shipp. Also left to carry on his legacy are twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
