Obituary

Lewis D. Colbert was born on January 12, 1950 in Okmulgee, Ok to Rev. Lewis C Colbert and Alice Sheppard Colbert.

Lewis attended school in Beggs, OK and later graduated from Dunbar in Okmulgee, Ok. During his high school reign he was an exceptional basketball player and lettered all four years. His team of 1969 won state and in 2018 was inducted in the Dunbar Basketball Hall of Fame. After high school Lewis attended Central State University in Edmond, Ok where then he decided to enlist in the Navy. During that time he met and married Eldora Jones and out of that union they were blessed with two children. After his time with the Navy he returned home where he attended Okmulgee State Tech where he earned a diploma in Dry-cleaning.

Lewis was very resourceful and a very hard worker, he worked at Ball Brothers for years until the company downsized which led him to his next endeavor with Brian Jackson Pump Company in Tulsa, OK where he worked until retirement age. He was a loyal and dedicated worker; he met and bonded with some of his lifelong friends during his time at the company. After the death of his first wife, he later met and married Patricia Fox and from that union they were blessed with a son. After retiring from Brian Jackson he discovered he wasn't built for retirement just yet, he began working for Walmart where he worked and retired after 15 years of service. Walmart became more like a ministry for him, he enjoyed greeting and talking with everyone that entered those doors. Lewis was a member of Conversion Church and was faithful in supporting the needs of the church.
During his journey in life he met his special friend, Wanda Williams. They enjoyed traveling, music festivals, and just had a zest for life together. Lewis enjoyed and had an impressive collection of model cars and videos. He had a love for cooking and developed a skill for cooking exotic meats. He had a passion for fishing, grilling, music, and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed his Taylor drive community and morning coffee and prayer with the Taylor Drive staff.

Mr. Lewis Dickey Colbert, after 69 years, left this life on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from a Tulsa Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Eldora Jones Colbert, and a brother, Luther Harris.

Lewis is survived by his children, Lewis Colbert Jr (aka Pee Wee) of Okmulgee, OK, Deshonda Colbert of Tulsa, OK, Laron (Chandra) Colbert of Okmulgee, OK, and Latasha Colbert of Tulsa, OK, a cherished sister, Cecilia Colbert Allen of Okmulgee, OK and a special friend, Wanda Williams of Anchorage, AK.
