God gave us an amazing infant on July 31, 1930. His Parents named him Robert Jacob Trout. Those who knew and loved him called him "Bobby" and later "Bob." His Mother, Maggie Littlejohn Trout passed away during Bob's early years, but left her imprint of kindness and generosity on his character. Later his Father, Everett Webster Trout and his six children married Elizabeth Hickman. To this union four children were born and one adopted making a total of eleven children. His parents loved and nurtured Bob. They showed by example the importance of being a person of strength and character. They instilled in him an unwavering belief in God, a strong work ethic, the importance of family and a strong sense of duty. Bob loved his family and it was important to him that his children know their relatives. Thus, family visits back to Haskell and to his brothers and sisters homes were a priority for him.
Bob did his primary and secondary education at Booker T. Washington High School in Haskell, Oklahoma. When Bob finished high school in 1948, he began his matriculation at Tuskegee Institute. He enjoyed his college years, participating in ROTC and pledging Phi Beta Sigma. He graduated from Tuskegee with honors, earning his Masters Degree and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Bob made his family proud.
Several months after he entered the United States Air Force, he met Nova Jean Corbin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They fell in love and were married on April 4, 1953. To this union three children were born: Barbria Jean; Pamela Toye, and Robert Jacob II.
Bob served in the Air Force for 21 years. He had tours of duty in exciting places such as Muskogee, Oklahoma, Chicago, Illinois, Tokyo, Japan, and Washington, D. C. where he was assigned to the Pentagon. His family enjoyed moving to different places. Bob did have isolated assignments in Vietnam and Thule Greenland however, which were difficult on him and his family. Bob retired from the military in May 1973 where he had attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
After his military retirement, Bob joined the Anne Arundel County School District as a school counselor for a year. He then joined Hess Oil Company and moved his family once again, this time to the U.S. Virgin Islands. He enjoyed Caribbean life immensely; snorkeling, calypso music and family outings at the beach.
In 1976, Bob moved his family to Houston, TX where he embarked on a second career at Aramco Oil Services in human resources management. This chapter ended with retirement in May 1994. He also received tremendous training at Hess Oil during this time of his life. The next chapter of his life began in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he and Nova joined Merrell United Methodist Church and became devoted supporters of the many church missions.
Also, coming from an agricultural community that believed in producing hay, grains and garden vegetables, Bob always found a place for a backyard garden which provided healthy food for his family and neighbors. To relieve stress from the office, Bob enjoyed visiting with his neighbors. Because of his excellent people skills, his family always enjoyed close relationships in the communities where they lived.
No matter where Bob moved his family, first on his list was to find a new church home and second, to find good schools for his children. Bob joined many church congregations over the years, always serving as a stalwart soldier in the army of our Lord.
Although Bob suffered from a long term illness he never lost his joyful countenance and loving spirit. He found happiness in each day and continued to care more about others than himself. We will miss his cheerful "good mornings" and hearty embraces.
