On September 1, 1934, Lillian Birdella Clark was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Ulysses and Emma Lee. She was the youngest of 8 children.
Lillian spent her early years in Detroit, Michigan before moving back to Muskogee, where she attended Manual Training High School. She was a majorette in the band and sang in the school choir. Music became an inspiration in her life, as she enjoyed singing and playing the piano. Lillian attended Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Cooksey and Rev. Noble, where she continued her passion for music and was the active pianist.
After returning to Muskogee, Oklahoma, Lillian met her "Knight" Clarence F. Givens and was married to him for over 64 years. This union of love brought about 7 children.
Lillian was frequently called "Momma Givens" or "Momma" by many and her home was always filled with children and laughter. Momma Givens enjoyed sitting on her front porch watching her children and grandchildren play ball across the street in an open field and she always encouraged them to be competitive and giving their best in whatever sport they were engaging in, except beating her in dominos. She always had a good "pep talk" for every occasion leaving the recipient with astounding courage to conquer anything.
Mrs. Lillian Givens, after Four-score and Three years, "was beckoned by the Master" on Friday, March 16, 2018. She was welcomed in Glory by her husband of 64 years, Clarence F. Givens, her mother, Emma Lee, father, Ulysses, sisters, Evelyn, Sarah, and Josephine, one brother Andrew and one grandson Dustin.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Two daughters, Zontennia (Larry), Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Ernestine (Chuck), Lawndale, California; five sons, Phil, Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Randolph (Sharon), Clarence Jr. (Teresa), Anthony, all of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and David (Franchelle), Checotah, Oklahoma; two sisters, Jimmie Ruth Jones, Ponca City, Oklahoma and Mary Francis Wilson, Oakland, California; and one brother Fred Lowe, Denver, Colorado. Lillian also leaves 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great- grand children and a host of nieces and nephews.
Rest in peace Momma, see you One Glad Morning!
