Lonnie Clyde Smith, 71, passed over on
Sunday, May 31, 2020 at the Hines VA
Hospital in Hines, Illinois.

On July 28, 1948, Lonnie was the 1st child
born to the late Lenard Smith, Sr. and
Ruth Barnes-Smith in Muskogee, Okla.
He graduated from Manual Training High
School, and soon after was drafted into
the U.S. Army, where he served in the
Vietnam War. Upon Lonnie's return to the
United States, he relocated to Chicago, IL,
and worked on various jobs, while
attending the University of Illinois & IIT,
majoring in architectural engineering,
during which time, he became ill and was
admitted to the Hines VA Extended Care
Facility in 1988, where he resided until he
transitioned.

Born of Christian parents, Lonnie at an
early age, became a member of the
Mt. Zion Baptist Church, under the
leadership of the late Rev. E. V. Brown in
Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his
parents, Lenard and Ruth Smith. He
leaves behind 2 brothers – Alfred Smith
and Lenard Smith, Jr.; 3 sisters – Maureen
Smith-Ishodi, Letha Smith-Swift (Rev.
Jeremiah Swift), and Rose Smith-Reed;
1 uncle – Garfield Smith; 2 aunts – Lola
Roberson and Juanita Smith; 7 nieces,
2 nephews, and a host of great-nieces
and great-nephews and cousins.
Lonnie's pleasant disposition will be
missed by those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 3, 2020 from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM in the Muskogee Chapel.  The funeral procession will depart from the funeral home at 12:30 for a 1:00 PM Graveside Ceremony in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
