Obituary

On September 19, 1938, a baby boy was born to Luther Louis Oliver and Bessie [Jackson] Oliver near Porter, Oklahoma, in a settlement called Choska Bottoms.


At an early age, Louis professed a hope in Jesus Christ and also attended the Dunbar School in the Mount Zion Community near Haskell, Oklahoma. In December of 1962, Mr. Oliver enlisted in the United States Army and served his country Honorably until 1964.


Louis met and married the love of his life, Edith Jane Simms on April 22, 1965 in Haskell. Their union was blessed with eight children.


His Masonic affiliation included being a member of the Eastern Light Lodge #100 in Haskell, Oklahoma, where he served as Worshipful Master and Secretary. He was also affiliated with the American Legion Post # 56 in Haskell and a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Haskell, Oklahoma.


He was preceded in death by three children, his parents, two sisters and a brother.


Those remaining to cherish his memory; his loving wife of forty-seven years, Edith Jane [Simms] Oliver; his children, Frances, James Velma and Terersa Oliver, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Louis Jr., Angela "Sha-Sha", Brandon, all of Haskell, Oklahoma, and Katina and Fairia Oliver, both of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two brothers-in-law, Brady [Lois] Simms, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Henry D. Simms, Rialto, California; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; and a caravan of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

The Final Hour with Mr. Oliver will commence on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Haskell High School Gymnasium. Reverend Carl G. Morgan, Pastor of the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Haskell, will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors in the Phyllis Cemetery at Haskell.

You may visit Mr. Oliver as he slumbers at the funeral home in Muskogee on Friday from 10 AM until 6 PM.
