Mrs. Luella A. Dean, after 91 glorious years, traded life for glory on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 from Wichita, Kansas. Born in Morris, Oklahoma, she arrived on April 5, 1917, the daughter of Eva Cobray and Hosea Henderson, the oldest of 7 children.
She accepted Christ at an early age and attended school in Boynton, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Wheatley high School. She married Emmitt Dean, Sr., in 1935 and their union was blessed with 15 children. She worked for many years as a cook at Okmulgee Country Club and retired from the Carriage Inn.
Mrs. Dean was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son and 2 daughters.
She leaves in God's care; 13 children, Lois Brooks Simmons, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gloria [Carl] Wright, Wichita, Kansas, Eva Austin and Joyce Dooley, Fort Worth, Texas, Emile E. McGill and Emmitt Dean, Jr., Wichita, Kansas, Agatha [Oscar] Adams, Stillwater, Oklahoma, james Dean, Kathy Jenkins, Lisa Montgomery, Amy [Lee] Shegog, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Julie Traylor, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Harry [Brenda] Dean, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; 3 sisters, Geletha Hutton and Imogene [Roosevelt] King, Wichita, Kansas and Ruth [Eyvine] Hearn, Oceanside, California; a brother, Hosea [Ruth] Henderson, Oceanside, California; a sister-in-law, Mildred Kennedy, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; 37 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and a caravan of other relatives and friends.
The Farewell Tribute will be on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the Macedonia Baptist Church. Reverend Judson Fields, Pastor will deliver the Eulogy and Reverend Eli Behn will officiate. You may visit Mrs. Dean, as she slumbers at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., on Friday from 12 noon to 7 PM, with the family present during the Wake beginning at 6 PM.
