Life is like an open book with many blank pages. On March 8, 1939, the book of life began to fill when Mae Ethel Tate was born from the loving union of Shawnee Tate and Daisy Mayweather, in a small town near Beggs, called Edna, Oklahoma.
Mae grew up in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, graduating from Historic Dunbar High School with the Class of 1958. Shortly after, she was blessed with nine children that she loved dearly. She provided for her family by working as a caregiver for several years at Miami Terrace and Highland Park Manor Nursing Home until her retirement on May 9, 2001.
Mae loved her family, conversing with her coffee club friends, talking on the phone, visiting her neighbors, sitting on the porch and was a die-hard Oklahoma City Thunder fan.
The final chapter in her book of life was written and fulfilled on Thursday, November 9, 2017, when she " Dozed into the tranquil peace, of Eternal slumber" from her home in Okmulgee. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sons, Anthony Ray Tate and Dexter Dawson.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her children, Jimmy [Wanda] Tate, Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Sandra Kay Wilson, San Angelo, Texas, Elaine Dawson, Elanza Dawson, Richard Dawson, all of Okmulgee, Deatrice Dawson, San Angelo, Texas, and Ayesha [Michael] Hicks, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; her siblings, Shirley [Henry] Walker, San Diego, California, Elise Moss, Pasadena, California, Kenny Moss, San Diego, California, Carol [Duke] Berry, Los Angeles, California and Louise Edwards, San Diego, California; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; along with a caravan of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will truly miss her presence.
The final hour with Mrs. Dawson will commence on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Saint Matthews Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend McKinley Rice, Pastor will officiate and Reverend Gregory Richardson will deliver the Eulogy.
Burial will follow in the Hoardsville Cemetery in Henryetta, Oklahoma.
