Malcolm Gene Taylor was born September 9, 1938 to the parentage of the late Claude Taylor, SR. and Lela Pertilla Broyals Taylor in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His parents, sister Gloria and brother Claude, JR. preceded him in death. Malcolm departed this life on Saturday, September 29, 2007.
Malcolm received his education in the Tulsa Public School system. Mr. Taylor attended Dunbar Elementary, Carver Jr. High School, and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1956. In high school, Malcolm played in the marching band and was a member of the Hornets football team. Upon graduation, he attended Tulsa Junior College in Tulsa, and Los Angeles Junior College in Los Angeles, California.
In 1956, Malcolm joined the United States Navy. He completed his basic training in Alameda, California, and completed his training as a general electrician. His oversea duty was served in Okinawa, Japan and on the USS Kearsage and USS Midway ships. He was honorably discharged as an AE3, Aviation Electrician Third Class at Bremerton, Washington.
Malcolm's employment was extensive and he enjoyed his work, which was always in the aircraft industry. His employment included Douglass Aircraft as an Aircraft Electrician and with the same company as a General Electrician in Santa Monica. He was also employed with North American Rockwell, Inc., and at American Airlines as a Mechanic. He would retire from American Airlines in 2005 as a Quality Assurance Inspector.
Malcolm was an avid photographer and spent his vacations taking and developing still pictures. He served as the 1956 Class Financial Secretary for several years and kept excellent records. Whatever Malcolm was supposed to do, he put his heart into it.
As a youngster, Malcolm attended Mount Rose Baptist Church where Rev. Theodore Rowland was pastor. In later years, he attended Morning Star Baptist Church, where he married his wife, the former Ella Jean Nevins under Rev. Dr. Thomas Chappelle, JR.
