Obituary
Ms. Marcella Surratt, in her 68th year, surrendered her soul to Jesus on Monday morning, November 7, 2011 from Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Marcella Ore was born in Berkley, California on August 19, 1943 to Ezra Ore and Margie Oakley. She was raised in the New Hope Community, where she attended elementary school and later moved to Muskogee. She was a student at Sadler Junior High School and a member of the Proud Class of 1962 of Historic Manual Training High School.
After moving to Kansas City, Missouri, she united with Arthur C. Surratt and they were blessed with a son, Arthur, Jr.
Marcella had many talents; sewing, knitting and crocheting to mention a few. She had a relationship with Jesus Christ, which gave her a passion for reading and studying God's word. She attended many classes in biblical studies and enjoyed acquiring knowledge of God. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Summitt, where she taught Sunday School and worked with the mission.
Marcella was a family historian also. If anyone wanted to know who belonged to whom, she was the person to ask. She visited other states, gathering information about our family tree.
In the community, she worked as a home health care provider for Country Style Health Care over the last 11 years, before her health began to fail her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Ramone, her sisters, Ethel Mae, Gwendolyn Louise, Earlene and Ora Belle, as well as a brother, Ellis.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her son, Arthur Surratt, Jr.; her sister, Margo and brother-in-law, Sammie Stanford; as well as 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and a host other loving relatives and friends.
The Sacred Farewell will be shared on Saturday morning, November 12, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. during a graveside ceremony at the New Hope Cemetery in the New Hope Community of Oktaha, Oklahoma.
Reverend Larry H. Smith, Sr., Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church will officiate.
You may visit Ms. Surratt, as she slumbers in sweet repose at the funeral home on Friday from 12 Noon until 6 PM.
