Her Life and Legacy
Margaret Carol Ferguson: Her "Time to be Born" was on August 17, 1939, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma; the third child of Dave and Gladys Ferguson. Margaret's second birth was at a young age, when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Personal Savior. She was baptized at the age of ten. Her parents ensured that she, along with her siblings, attended church regularly. They were members of Osage Avenue Christian Church Disciple of Christ, Okmulgee, OK.
Margaret's "Time to Build Up" She was educated in Okmulgee Public Schools. She was actively involved in school academically and as a majorette in the band; she graduated from Dunbar High School. Shortly after graduation, she relocated to Tulsa, OK. Margaret was a Model at Brown-Duncan Department Store, which complemented her elegant sense of style. She was employed at Danner's Cafeteria in Utica Square, where she met Sylvester McCaskill. On December 10, 1960, at the age of twenty-one she and Sylvester united in holy matrimony. Upon completing her Certified Nursing Assistant Vocation, she began her employment at Hillcrest Medical Center. Margaret, fondly known as Mac, was also known for her infectious smile, bubbly personality, and her gentle and caring manner. Due to the passionate care of her patients, she received several outstanding awards and recognitions. She remained employed at Hillcrest Medical Center for forty-three years until retirement in 2008.
Her "Time to Plant" and "Time to Sow" began when she and Sylvester had four daughters, LeAnna, Syletta, Margie, and Karen who were raised in a Christian environment. The family attended Pine Street Christian Church Disciples of Christ. Their Christian beliefs extended beyond the church. Margaret and Sylvester not only opened the corridors of their hearts but also the corridors of their home. From the earlier years of their marriage to the latter years of her life, the McCaskill's home was a place of restoration for many friends and family. They instilled in their daughters the importance of family by loving and supporting one another. Margaret unconditionally gave of herself. She selected the third shift at work (11:00 pm until 7:00 am) to be available for her family. During the holidays, she would cook an abundance of food, welcoming anyone to share meals; a life lesson well learned from her mother who taught her how to cook and how to take care of her home. Margaret's African-American roots, blended with her French-Creole and Native American roots gave her a colorful heritage knitted in the tapestry of love and acceptance of all. Margaret, also known by her French nickname, Mynee, had a way of story-sharing; she enjoyed sharing stories about her family and reminiscing about her childhood. Margaret was a faithful member of Pine Street Christian Church Disciples of Christ, under the leadership of Reverend Lawrence Gray. She served as a Deaconess and a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She enjoyed studying and quoting the Bible and lived accordingly. Her positive outlook on life coupled with the wisdom that God gave her touched the lives of many.
Her "Time to Mourn" was the death of her parents, Dave and Gladys Ferguson; her husband, Sylvester McCaskill; five of her siblings, Abraham Ferguson, Ernestine Ferguson-Ashford, Gerald Ferguson, Baby Elijah Ferguson, and Baby Frances Ferguson.
Her "Time to die" and "Time of Peace" met on September 12, 2011. At the age of seventy-two, having lived a full and beautiful life, Margaret's heart stopped beating; she was received into the Father's Hands.
