On August 16, 1934, a beautiful baby girl was born to Robert Raye and Olean Lewis in Hugo, OK. Marguerite was the only child to this union. Her first cousin, Rudolph Lewis was raised as her brother. She has three sisters Linda Raye-Graves, Dorothy Ruth Davis and Priscilla Raye. Marguerite attended Dunbar Elementary, Carver Junior High and Booker T. Washington High School.
Marguerite graduated in 1953, the same year she was crowned Miss Hornet. She attended Pittsburg State University where she earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and also was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Upon graduating, she taught in the Tulsa Public School system for over 30 years.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church, Rose of Sharon and a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church where her cousin Rev. Bobby Kendricks Jr. is the pastor.
She met and united in holy matrimony to Melvin Gilliam Jr. and together, they created a union of five children.
Her life's purpose was raising her children and being an active mom by attending their sport events. She was known for her loudness and coaching on the sidelines and sometimes on the fields.
