Marshall Pearson Bryant Sr. was born second son of Dr. Roscoe C. and Curlie B. Bryant February 27, 1924.
He attended Booker T. Washington Elementary, Carver Junior High and graduated in 1941 from Booker T. Washington High School.
His college days started at Howard University but finished at Tennessee State University Nashville, Tennessee. He was one of few that was in attendance at the 50th class reunion of Tennessee State University and received a vinteger certificate. He served briefly in the United States Navy in 1943.
Marshall met the love of his life Jewel E. Sanders in 1950 and married November 18, 1951. Three children were born to this union.
Marshall entered Federal service as a postal clerk/carrier. When he received his law degree from Tulsa University he advanced to employment with EEOC in Kansas City, Missouri. He finished his federal tenure at HUD offices in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In the beginning of the Jordan Plaza Project he was a valuable consultant to the committee. He worked for the Tulsa Housing Authority and later was appointed by Mayor Susan Savage to the Board of Commissioners of Tulsa Housing Authority.
During his retirement, he supported United Negro College Fund telethons, volunteered at Meals on Wheels and at the YMCA. He also enjoyed playing tennis, bicycling and socializing with friends. He was a charter member of the Tulsa Set Club, AARP NW group, BTW INC. and Class of 41.
Marshall was a long time faithful trailblazer member of First Baptist Church North Tulsa.
Mr. Bryant participated and sang solos in the music ministry. When his health caused him to step down from the chancel choir, he was presented with an impressive plaque of appreciation. He also sang in the Carrie B. Neely Chorale presentation of the "Messiah". He enjoyed all kinds of music and had an extensive jazz collection (a portion was donated to the Greenwood Jazz Hall of Fame).
Marshall's parents and one brother Dr. Roscoe C. Bryant Jr. preceded him in death.
Marshall leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 59+ years, Jewel; Three children Marshall P. Bryant Jr.(Roshawn) of Denver, CO, Patrice B. Pollard(Michael) of Stamford, CT, Nelia J. French(Demetrius) of Oklahoma City, OK, Three grandsons Mickael P. Pollard of Atlanta, GA, Mallury P. Pollard of Stamford, CT, Carlton P. Bryant of Denver, CO.
One brother Attorney Hubert H. Bryant of Tulsa, OK, sister-in-law Ruth Bryant of Louisville, KY, cousins Joan Blount of Detroit, MI, John(Jackie) G. Galloway of Oklahoma City, OK, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The Final Hour with Mr. Bryant will commence on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 in the First Baptist Church of North Tulsa. Reverend Anthony L. Scott, Sr., Pastor, will Preside.
You may visit Mr. Bryant, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the funeral home in Tulsa on Monday from 12 Noon until 7 PM.
