As the sun was rising on June 7, 1944, it meant the beginning of the life of Mary Ruth Whitfield. This beautiful, baby girl was born to Theodore Roosevelt and Adeline [Dunn] Whitfield.
Mary grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she received her formal education. Later in life, she met and then married her life long companion, Johnny Lee Jackson, Sr. Two children were born from this union. They remained married for 14 years.
Mrs. Jackson maintained several jobs throughout her life to support her family. She pursued a career in nursing and health care. Mary began her career in Fort Smith and later moved to Sallisaw before retirement from Tower Hill Nursing Home in Muskogee.
She was best described as "Dimples" by family and close friends. She enjoyed working puzzles, and was an avid Muskogee Rougher Fan. She was concerned about everyone around her. Her priority was insuring that other needs were met, even before her own.
The final curtain of life closed for Mary Ruth Jackson on Saturday morning, June 10, 2017 from Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Betty Morgan and Bea Bea Whitfield, and her brothers, James Whitfield and Theodore Whitfield and her best friend, Betty Jo Berry;
She leaves to continue her legacy; her sons, Ameial Marshall and Christopher Donald Jackson; her brother and sister, Inez Whitfield and Willie Whitfield [Pauline], all of Muskogee, Oklahoma; her very special in-law, Cynthia Whitfield; a niece she raised, Felicia Teague [Kenneth]; a nephew that was like a brother, Melvin Gray; two special nephews, Miguel and John Whitfield; 4 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; along with a caravan of other relatives and friends.
