Obituary

Mrs. Mary L. [Jackson-Gassaway] DeVille, after 90 years, went to be with the Lord in Heaven on Saturday evening, July 4, 2009 from Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

She was born in Hugo, Oklahoma on February 14, 1919, the daughter of Mitchell and Katie Jackson.

Sister Mary moved to Okmulgee County in 1943 and remained a resident of the area the rest of hre life.

She was a seamstress as well as a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Moses Gassaway, Sr., and her second husband, Franklin DeVille.

She leaves to lament her passing; her son, Moses [Kim] Gassaway, Jr., Elwood, Kansas; her daughter, Freeda Abbott, San Diego, California; her sisiters, Lucille Abercrombie and Theola Cartlidge, both of Toledo, Ohio, Thelma Stoudt and Queen Calvin, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Eva Jackson-Gassaway, Los Angeles, California; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends.

The tribute will be on Saturday July 11, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. in the New Salem Baptist Church. Reverend Willie Antwine, Sr., Pastor, will officiate. The Christian Committal will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery.

Friends may visit Mrs. DeVille, as she slumbers in peaceful repose in the Chapel of Peace on Friday from 12 Noon to 6 PM, in Okmulgee.
