Mary Elizabeth Mitchell was born in Okmulgee County, near Nuyaka, Oklahoma on October 5, 1927 from the union of Frank and Bertha [Demery] Freeman.
Mary accepted Christ into her life at an early age. She attended Okmulgee Public Schools and was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church for over 61 years until going to be with the Lord. She served the Lord faithfully as a Choir Member, Mission Worker, served on the Pastor's Aid Committee and wherever else she was needed.
Sister Mitchell also volunteered her time and gifts to the Salvation Army, Homeless Shelter, the Prayer Band, Aglo Fellowship and a Home League Member of the Salvation Army, as well.
Mary united in Holy matrimony on June 7, 1943 to Arvesta Mitchell. Their union was blessed with four children.
After 96 years, Mary Elizabeth Mitchell transitioned from "Time until Eternity" on Saturday evening, October 14, 2023 from her home in Okmulgee. She was met at Heaven's Gate by her husband, Arvesta Mitchell, Sr., her son, Arvesta Mitchell, Jr., along with other Ancestors and family who preceded her.
She leaves to lament her passing; her children, Troy Mitchell, Larry [Esther] Mitchell and Glinda Mitchell, all of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; her sister, Lucille Haywood, Los Angeles, California; a God-Daughter, Brenda Hickman; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; along with a caravan of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Final Hour with Mother Mitchell will commence on Saturday morning, October 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the most holy sanctuary of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. The Pastor, Reverend Dr. Douglas M. Currington will Preside.
Burial will be on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
You may visit Mother Mitchell, as she slumbers in sweet repose in the Chapel of Peace of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee on Friday between the hours of 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
