Obituary

Mrs. Mattie Mae Murphy was born on July 24, 1951, in Blytheville, Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late Lonzo, Sr., and Rena Mae Bell Weatherspoon.

She united with the New Zion Baptist Church in Muskogee, in 2019, under Pastor Gary Mitchum. She was a member and First Lady of Mount Pleasant Church in Porter, Oklahoma, under her husband, Rev. Larnnie Murphy, Jr., for well over twenty years.

Mattie was an exceptional woman, mom, wife, First Lady to Rev. Murphy, grandmother, and caregiver. She loved to sing, bake, and cook. Mattie's doors were always open to family and friends and even her children's friends. We will miss her beautiful smile, soulful voice, and those huge dimples. She loved dressing in stylish clothing and matching accessories.

On October 20, 2021, at Saint Francis Hospital in Muskogee, Mattie transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lorena Murphy; sister, Vera Weatherspoon; and brother, Lonzo Weatherspoon, Jr.

She leaves to cherish: her husband, Rev. Larnnie Murphy, Jr.; four daughters, Lonnie Faye Murphy of Muskogee, Connie Murphy-Pugh (Reggie) of Bryant, Arkansas, Angel Murphy of Muskogee, and Regina Murphy-Dixon (Eddie) of Oklahoma City; three sons, Johnny Murphy (Briauna), and Lonnie Murphy III (Stacy), both of Muskogee, and Alton Murphy of Lexington, Oklahoma; one brother, Andrew Weatherspoon of Muskogee; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
II Timothy 4:7
