IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maurice Lamar
Harris
March 8, 1949 – May 16, 2024
Maurice Lamar Harris, born on March 8, 1949 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was a man of remarkable resilience and wit. He was a spirited and smart individual whose infectious laughter and profound wisdom touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. Maurice, a dedicated Cement Analyst, was an esteemed member of the Blue Circle community where his insightful contributions were greatly valued. He held a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Langston University, and even taught school for two years before embarking on his successful career in chemical analysis.
His vivacious spirit was not limited to his professional life. Maurice had a passion for sports, serving as an umpire for softball for over a decade, and as a basketball referee for fifteen years. In his later years, he found profound joy in watching sports games from the comfort of his home in Austin, Texas, often accompanying the experience with lively calls to his loved ones. He was also a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and was deeply involved in his home church, Antioch Baptist Church. He served on the single's ministry, men's ministry, and courtesy committee, living out the Baptist verse, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9).
Maurice will be forever remembered as a man who loved unconditionally and lived passionately. His resilience and wit, his love for sports and his dedication to his faith, all contributed to the rich tapestry of his life. He is survived by his daughter Jocelyn Harris, his granddaughter Maliyah Gibbs, his son Maurice Jr, and his grandson Omri Harris. He is also survived by his siblings Violet (JC) Johnson, Clifford(Deloria)Harris, Sherman (Linda) Harris, and Eric Celestine. He was preceded in death by his father William Harris, mother Mildred Harris, and brother Denzil Celestine.
