Maxine Cole was born May 25, 1929 in Edna, Oklahoma to Norman and Ida Mae (Tate) Cole Sr. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Harry Brooks. She began her education in Edna School and later attended Slick High School in Slick, Oklahoma.
Maxine joined Tuskegee Baptist Church and was Baptized at an early age. She moved to California and worked as a nanny. Upon her return to Oklahoma she reunited with Tuskegee Baptist Church. She served as Church Clerk for many years until she became ill. Maxine also coordinated the church kitchen for many years, everyone can remember the delicious dinners at Tuskegee Baptist Church.
She worked for many years as the head cook in the coffee shop at St. Francis in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she retired from in the mid 1980's.
Family and friends loved her cooking, there wasn't any dish she couldn't prepare. She had many other talents such as sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, & embroidery. Maxine always offered a helping hand to anyone in need.
Maxine was preceded in death by her son Michael Cole, father Norman Cole Sr., mother Ida Mae Brooks, step-father Harry Brooks, brothers James "Dutch" Cole, Norman "Bug" Cole Jr., sisters Deanie Butler, Cleata Jones, & nephew Jerry Butler.
She leaves to mourn 2 sisters; Erma Jean (Sidney Sr.) Lewis & Norma Jean (O.J.) Simpson, two brothers; Floyd (Gladys) Johnson, Carl (Debra) Cole, and one step-sister Mae McClinton, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, & other family and friends.
Her services will be Saturday June 25, 2016 at 11AM at First Baptist Church South in Beggs, Oklahoma.
Friends may visit on Friday from 1PM until 6PM in Okmulgee.
