Melvin Charles Matthews was born in Vicksburg Mississippi to James Louis Matthews and Gladys Jeter. He was the fifth child of ten children Man y who knew him called him by his nickname "Blue" He attended school in Coldwater Mississippi.
He moved to Tulsa Oklahoma in his early 20's and became a self-made Cowboy. You could always find him dressed up in his cowboy boots & hat, shirt, wrangler jeans and his big shiny belt buckle. Charles loved to laugh and was always the LIFE of the party! He worked very hard all his life. He was employed in the 70's with Braden Steel and in the 80's up until his health failed him he worked for Dresser-Rand over 25 years. His line of work was construction, welding and sandblasting.
"Blue" fought a good fight and lived much longer than the doctors predicted. On Wednesday January 17th while surrounded by family he calmly closed his eyes and went to sleep. He leaves to continue his memory: Sons: Melvin C. Matthews Jr. (Valarie) and Marvin Martin of Tulsa Oklahoma, Daughters: LeQuitha Johnson, Tmesha Martin, and Genesis Martin. Brothers, Louis Matthews (Velma) Tulsa Oklahoma, Steve Wilkins (Nikie) Nesbit, MS. Sisters: Zelma Tate (Leonard) Gearldine Boyd, Annie Laskey (James), Alice Matthews, Linda Matthews all of Tulsa. Helen Matthews Oklahoma City, OK, and Joe Ann Chandler Horn Lake, MS. 13 grandchildren, Significant other: Lois Martin and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Louis and Gladys Matthews, and one sister Betty Ann Miller.
