Melvin Bernard Nero was born August 14, 1945 in Bristow, Oklahoma to the union of the late Herman Nero and Bonnie Lee Nero. Melvin grew up in Bristow, Oklahoma and attended Bristow Schools. He was the third of ten children to the late Herman and Bonnie Nero. Upon graduating, Melvin joined the U.S. Army, where he received two medals for National defense service sharp shooter, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal Expert. After serving twelve years he was honorably discharged and decided to continue his education where he received his Business Administration degree from Okmulgee Technical Institute.
He would meet and marry Georgia Ann Bruton. Their loving union would blossom for 40 years. Their union produced three children: Rochelle Annette Nero, Cheming Lateech Nero, and Kerra Mecke. He began his career with KVOO-Channel 2 as a film editor for five years. His insurance career began at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where he was employed for thirty-five years. Melvin accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He continually taught his family that true Christianity begins at home. Melvin loved to read, fish, and laugh being with is family and friends, he touched the lives of many people with his smile and maintained his trademark calmness all the way to the end.
The celebration of his home going began on December 21, 2010 in Houston, Texas. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. He leaves his love ones safely in the hands of God, loving In-Laws Doyce Pitre, Depew, Ok, Doris Johnson, Tulsa, Ok, Gaynail Hudson, Houston, Tx, Denies Fletcher, Depew, Ok, Barbara Brown(Oscar), Ohma, Ne, Darlene Colbert(Arthur). Ray, Kansas City, Jake, Tulsa, Ok Willie Tulsa, Ok Adam Mecke, Tulsa Ok. Melvin will be forever remembered by his loving sisters Carnella McGowans Kansas City, Mo, Donna Cowan, Tulsa Ok, Glenda Rolland Tulsa, Ok Sheryl Nero Tulsa, Ok. Treasured grandchildren Darrelle Goff, Alexis Nero, Rianne Nero, Elijah Mecke, Kloe Mecke and Rylan Nero.
Services for Mr. Nero will be held Tuesday December 28, 2010 at 11AM at Concord Community Baptist Church located at 5204 N. Osage Dr. in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Friends may visit Mr. Nero as he peacefully rests on Monday from 12Noon to 7PM in Tulsa.
