Life and Legacy
Michael Arthur Anderson ("Mikey") was born in Salinas, California, to William and Juanita Anderson on November 14, 1955.
He lived briefly in Las Vegas, Nevada, in his early years before moving to Muskogee with his mother and three sisters. He attended Douglass and Jefferson Elementary, Alice Roberson Junior High, and Muskogee High. He was baptized as a young man at Berean SDA Church.
At the age of 13, Mikey began boxing with Golden Gloves and eventually rose through the ranks to become a professional in the lightweight division. Some of the names under which he boxed include "Kid Chocolate," "Rent Man," and "King Arthur." He boxed with and met many famous people as he traveled in Europe, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, and Hawaii, and he was a sparring partner for Alexis Arguello and Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini.
Mikey served his country in the United States Army for 20 months and later worked at the Veteran's hospital in the housekeeping department. In September of this year, Mikey's health began to decline, and he passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 16, 2021.
