Obituary

Michael Charles Hicks was born on November 7, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri to his birth parents, Mable Holmes and L. G. Williams.  As an infant, he went to live with Irene and Howard Hicks, who he called mom and dad, and where he lived and was raised in the Sandtown area of Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
At an early time in his life, Mike found the Lord.  Michael and his dad would walk from Sandtown to attend First Baptist Church on North Central every Sunday.  His parents instilled in him the importance of knowing Christ.  Michael attended Dunbar High School before integration in 1969.  His Senior year, his football team won the State Championship.
After graduating high school with the Class of 1970, he attended Northeastern State College briefly and finished at Oklahoma State Tech in Okmulgee in Automobile Mechanics.
In 1972, Michael Hicks became Okmulgee's first African American Fire Fighter, and after 25 years, Mike retired in 1997.  He hit a low point in his life and lost his way, but remembered his upbringing and turned his life around and became the man his parents raised.  After losing everything, Mike worked hard to regain his life and restored his restoration back to God.  Mike was a faithful member and Deacon at Conversion Ministries Church, under the leadership of Reverend Gregory Richardson.  He, along with his family attended faithfully until his health began to fail.
Mike enjoyed riding motorcycles and loved to grudge race, holding the title one of the best and fastest motorcycle riders in these parts of town.  Mike and a few buddies organized a motorcycle club, called "The Black Dice," where Mike served as President.  In the early 1980's, Mike took on the mind set as an entrepreneurship as a Heavy Equipment operator and a lawn care service.  He taught himself plumbing and with these skills, Mike provided for his family.   Mike enjoyed teaching and sharing his wisdom.  He erected a garage, better known as "Hicks Place".  Everybody loved to hang out in Hicks Place, where they would socialize, cut a rug or two and even shot several games of pool.
In 2011, Mike met the love of his life, Ayesha and they were married on February 14, 2015.  Together, they enjoyed the same hobbies, riding motorcycles, traveling and just simply being in each others presence.  If you saw Mike, Ayesha wasn't too far behind.  Mike and Ayesha were best friends and were committed to raising their children.  He was a true example of what the head of the household was.  He loved and protected his family.  Up until his death, his wife was by his side.  She was true to her vows of in sickness and in health, til death us do part and that she did.
Mike had a vision.  He brought it to his wife, and after discussion and with love and support, the monthly Men's Meeting was organized in the "Hicks Garage", where men came together to discuss the Bible and talk about the Lord.  Mike's goal was to reach people in hopes that they would accept the Lord as their personal savior.
On Saturday, November 30, 2019, in the early morning, Michael Charles Hicks, Sr., in his 68th year, answered the call of the Lord and "rode up the King's Highway through Heaven's gate, with his family near his side to witness.  He was preceded in death by his birth parents, Mable Holmes and L. G. Williams, his mom and dad, Irene and Howard Hicks, his siblings, Brenda Hicks, Brenda Goods, Charles Goods, Humphrey Goods, Jr., Debbie Goods, twin sisters, Diane and Kianna Goods and Keith Williams.
