IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Minister Michael
James Scott
November 13, 1956 – April 21, 2020
A Godly life ended on April 21, 2020, when Minister Michael James Scott closed his eyes on April 21, 2020 at 3:45 PM, to open them in the presence of the Lord. God saw him getting tired, when a cure was not to be. He wrapped his arms around him and whispered, "Come home Son, you didn't deserve what you went through, so now rest."
On November 13, 1956, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, a son was born to George W. and Flora [Howell] Scott and they named him Michael James. He was the eleventh child of eleven siblings born from this union. He was affectionately known as "Big Mike" to many of his family and friends. He received his education at Dunbar Elementary, Sadler Jr. High, Alice Robertson Jr. High and Muskogee High School. He attended Gary Job Corp Center in San Marcus, Texas, where he received his High School Diploma. He completed several courses through the Oklahoma School of Religion.
On May 26, 1985, Michael gave his life to the Lord through the Ministry of Pastor Kevin Clarkson, at Grandview Baptist Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He later united with New Jerusalem Baptist Church under the pastorage of Pastor Leslie Wilson. He announced his calling to the ministry in October 1988 and on November 13, 1988, he preached his first sermon, "It's Later Than you Think," from Matthew 24:1-7. Minister Scott has worked in various capacities of the Church ministry, including Sunday School, Nursing Home Ministry, Prison Ministry, Bus Ministry and Substance Abuse Ministry. His love was Preaching God's word and teaching Sunday School, and anytime he could proclaim God's word.
Michael later reunited with New Jerusalem Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Pastor Ralph E. Boyattia, where he met his future wife, Harolyn Ann Townsell. They married on October 14, 2000.
Michael was a very social and loving person; he never met a stranger. He loved to talk; he would say onne of the best jobs he has was when he was in the insurance business, because he loved to talk to people. He also could be a jokester at times. He was an avid sports fan; his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. He loved to read his bible and he had a special interest in Germany History, playing with his sports cards and listening to Gospel Music.
Michael later united with Macedonia Baptist Church under the pastorage of Pastor Larry H. Smith, Sr. and was a faithful member there until his health began to fail and could no longer attend.
Those awaiting him in Glory; his parents, five sisters and four brothers.
Those waiting the Master's Call; his wife of 19 years, Harolyn; his daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Brandi and Marcus Ashworth, Sr.; his grandson, Braylin and Marcus, Jr.; a sister, Sandra Kaye Porter, Lawton, Oklahoma; his Aunt, Dorothy Scott, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; along with other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. There are so many he had a close bond with whom he cared about deeply.
