IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Minnie Ruth
Givings
August 13, 1941 – July 31, 2022
Minnie Ruth Greenhoward (Maiden Name) was born August 13, 1941, to Pastor James Bunyan Greenhoward and Lucille Greenhoward. Two of her siblings preceded their parents in death, Roscoe Greenhoward and Sarah Greenhoward. The remaining five were as follows: James Bunyan Greenhoward (Gloria/deceased), Naomi Douglas (Rev. Mitchell Douglas/deceased), Jude Thomas J.T. Greenhoward (Nellie/deceased), Minnie Ruth Givings (Thyme/ deceased), and George Washington Carver Greenhoward (Elsie).
All three brothers preceded her in death. Minnie was raised in a loving and Christian home and her father, Rev. J.B. Greenhoward, was the pastor of Tuskegee Baptist Church and Mt. Herman Baptist Church for many years; he also was a pastor at a church in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Minnie professed a hope in Christ at an early age. Minnie married her first husband, Robert Jackson, and to this union she had three beautiful children: Marsha Denise Cole (Steve) of Broken Arrow, OK, Maranita Faye Jackson of Bristow, OK, and Robert Jackson, Jr. (Boone), of Norman, OK.
She later married Thyme M. Givings and to this union, nine children were added to the family: Sheryl Givings of Colony, TX, Sherry Givings of Bristow, OK (Twins), James Givings of Clarksville, IN, Wash Givings (Amber) of Bristow, OK, Michael Givings of Tulsa, OK, Michele Givings of Frisco, TX (Triplets/son still-born), Carla Borens (Keith/deceased) of Bixby, OK, Darla Pouncil (David) of Gainesville, TX, and Brandon Givings (Samantha) of Sapulpa, OK.
She was blessed with four bonus children: Johnny Lee Givings, Floyd Givings, and Marilyn Givings, these three preceded her in death, and Thyme Givings, Jr., of Oklahoma City, OK, who always treated her with kindness.
Minnie was a faithful and devoted servant of Greater Mt. Herman Baptist Church. She served in various capacities: Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Mission President, and her last role "Mother Givings." Minnie Givings was a devoted Mother/Wife and a constant spiritual leader in the home. She prayed many years for her husband to be saved and unite with the church. Her husband accepted Christ at a late age, and she stood by his side. They joined Tuskegee Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Willie Antwine, Sr., and the family followed. They later joined First Baptist Depew under the leadership of Pastor Samuels, but lastly, Minnie Ruth Givings and Thyme Givings united with Greater Mt. Herman Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor D. W. Nash and later, James Phillip Tottress. Minnie Ruth served under him until her health declined and she moved to Gainesville, TX.
Minnie Givings was a homemaker most of her life and she loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; they all have fond memories of her delicious cooking, sewing of beautiful dresses, gardening, and games such as Scrabble and Jacks. She had an amazing spirit and a beautiful voice. Her hit song Jesus Be a Fence All Around Me was requested frequently. Minnie loved the Lord and she loved her church; she often expressed her desire that all her family be saved.
Minnie Ruth Givings departed this life on July 31, 2022, surrounded by her loving family, singing and praying.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her twelve children; forty grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; sister,
Naomi Douglas Neptune of NJ; sister-in-law, Elsie Greenhoward of Tulsa, OK; Greater Mt. Herman Church and Bristow Church family; and a host of nephews, nieces, communities, friends, and loved ones, who she adored. She always made mention that though she resided in Texas, Newby/Bristow, Oklahoma, was her home place. Though we are deeply saddened to see you leave us, you often told us this day was coming. We can rest assured that you fought a good fight, you finished your course, never wavering, even through all your sickness and dialysis; you kept the faith and held on tight to God's Unchanging hand. You left a great road map for us to follow. Mom, you can rest now from all your labor. I know you will be waiting at the gate for us. Job well done, thy good and faithful servant, Minnie Ruth Givings.
