Mother Libbie
A. Griffin
February 23, 1937 – April 24, 2024
On February 23, 1937, a bouncing baby girl was born to Lee and Minnie Mae Abernathy in Gibson Station, OK and theynamed her Libbie. She was the youngest of eight children. She attended Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Wagoner, OK. She later graduated from C.H. Mason Bible College.
Libbie was saved in her youth and was a member of Gibson Station Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder G.E. Ashley. She later became the Sunday School Superintendent.
In 1955, she married the love of her life, Willie Lee Griffin and moved to Tulsa, OK. To this union, three children were born.
She united with Page Memorial Church of God in Christ and was a devoted member under the leadership of Pastor J.L. Alaman. After Pastor Alaman's death, she moved her membership to Northside Church of God In Christ where she served faithfully under Superintendent Carl
Prather, Elder M.O. Ross, Sr. and presently under Dr. David J. Johnson, Sr. Libbie held various positions in the church at the state, district, and local levels. She served as the State Licensed Missionary President, District Missionary for the Tulsa District, and held many local positions such as Church Mother, Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, YWCC Counselor and President of Missionaries to name a few.
On April 24, 2024, Libbie's earthly journey ended, and she began her new life at home in Heaven.
Libbie was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and four brothers, her husband, Willie Lee Griffin, Sr., one son, Willie Lee Griffin, Jr., and one grandson, Joshua Griffin. She leaves to celebrate her homegoing: one daughter, Patricia Griffin, and one son Derrick Griffin; daughter-in-law Pamela Griffin of Tampa, Florida; five grandchildren: Mesha, Jeremy, Dannika, Kelly and Kaleb; three great-grandchildren: Patience, Serenity, and Zion; one Goddaughter, Adairia Tarver-Vinson (Keith), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
The Sacred Farewell for Mother Griffin will commence on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Eleventh Hour in the most holy sanctuary of New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Tulsa.
You may visit Mother Griffin as she slumbers in sweet repose at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Tulsa on Thursday, May 2, 2024 between the hours of 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
You may also visit Mother Griffin as she slumbers in sweet repose at New Jerusalem Baptist Church on Friday, May 3, 2024 between the hours of 10:00 AM until 10:50 AM.
The Christian Committal will take place on Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Eleventh Hour in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
