Obituary

On a cool day November 8, 1941, a baby boy was born to Velma Arlena Shields and Rev. Virdie David Alford in Choctaw County, Oklahoma; their first born, named Nathaniel Lee Alford. Nathaniel moved with his family to Nowata, OK at a young age where he attended Lincoln School and later graduating from Nowata High School where he was much noted for his football skills. Upon graduation, Nathaniel joined the United States Army in which he served 6 years. In 1961 he married Glenda Coleman of Coffeyville, Kansas and from this union five children were born; two daughters, Robin and Pamela; three sons, Maurice, Steven and Victor. They made their home in Kansas City, Missouri for many years. Nathaniel in later years was married to Patricia and a daughter, Natalie Lee, was born from this union. Nathaniel worked most of his career as a chef and manager of Sims restaurants including a move to San Leandra, California to open and manage several Sims restaurants. He also worked many years for Ford Motor Company in Kansas City. In 2000, he returned to his hometown of Nowata, OK where he was employed as a cook at the Nowata Hays House before retiring. Nathaniel was known for his photography expertise and as a passionate fan of James Brown and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was fondly nicknamed Kansas City Nate. The sun set on Nathaniel's life on November 5, 2015. in Tulsa, Oklahoma, three days short of his 74th birthday. Nathaniel Lee Alford will be missed by all of his family. May our love one's soul rest in peace with all of our angels in heaven. Preceding Mr. Alford in death are his parents Velma (Alford) Chambers and Rev. Virdie David Alford, both paternal/maternal grandparents, one daughter, Pamela Alford, two sisters, Mary (Alford) Hubbard, Betty (Alford) Kirkendoll, one brother, Willie Alford and dearest cousin Thelma (Bates) Davis. Those left to mourn his passing and prepare his final home going are his children, Robin Williams, Steven Alford, Maurice Alford all of Dayton, Ohio. Victor Alford of Wichita, Kansas and Natalie Alford of California. Three sisters, Tealla Phillips of Oklahoma City, OK; Velma DeSilva and husband Edward of McKinney, TX and Gracie L. Tilmon and husband David of Taylors, SC. Three brothers, Henry Alford of Nowata, OK; Cordell Alford and wife Tonya of Tulsa, OK and Harlene Alford and wife Carrie of Columbus, KS. Nathaniel also leaves to mourn his grandchildren, great grandchildren; an Aunt, Juanita Akins of Hugo, OK and very close cousin, Emma Davis of Hugo, OK, many nieces, nephews as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Services for Mr. Nathaniel Lee Alford will be Wednesday November 11, 2015 at 10AM inside Biglow's All Faiths Chapel in Tulsa.

Friends may visit Mr. Alford on Tuesday from 1pm until 7pm in Tulsa.
