In the year of 1957 on the sixth day of June, Gloria Jean Commander and Mitchell Surrell, Sr. welcomed a beautiful baby girl. They named her Nona Elizabeth after her great aunt.
Beth or Bet as she was known to by many began her education at Muskogee Public Schools, and completed her education in Tullahassee, Ok with the class of 1975.
Because of Bet's rearing she accepted Christ at and early age and has been a life long member of her family's church, Deans Chapel Baptist Church.. She served on the Usher Board and helped on the culinary department where her talents were shown in cooking and decorating. Bet loved her church family and that loving spirit poured over into her second love of caring for the elderly. Because of this love she became a CNA and worked in several nursing homes until her health begin to fail.
Living life to the fullest and never meeting a stranger Bet enjoyed being in the company of her family and friends and talking on the telephone. She also took pride in cooking large meals, in which will be greatly missed!
It was the evening of Sunday, April 18th that Bet left this earthly life and made that sweet transition into that heavenly place. It is our belief that she was greeted by her daughter Erica and mother Gloria Jean.
Left to cherish her witty and sweet memory her father Mitchell Surrell, Sr. (Willie Mae) Fresno, CA 3 sisters Wynnetta Jones, Muskogee; Denise Surrell, Stockton, CA; and Regina Tollett, Shreveport LA. 3 Brothers: Mitchell Surrell (Brenda) Ft. Smith AR; Wesley Tollett Muskogee and Winston Tollett Jr. (Steph) Katy, TX. A life long friend Reggie Adkins and her three beloved puppies, Koko, Kasara and Kenya. A caravan of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bet's fun and outgoing spirit will greatly be missed but it was time for her to go on a different journey. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. 2 Cor 5:8.
The Celebration Service will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Dean's Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. Don Dumas, Pastor, will Officiate.
