Mr. Norman Eugene "Porter" Tate, after 51 seasons, surrendered his soul on Thursday, June 21, 2007 in Beggs, Oklahoma.
Mr. Tate was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on August 26, 1956, the son of Corporal and Ethelda W. [Townsell] Tate, Sr. He grew up in Beggs, where he attended school and operated his own business, Tates's Lawn & Tree Service.
Better known as "Poter" to those close to him, he served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp. and was a member of the First Baptist Church-South in Beggs.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves behind; a loving wife, Delois Tate, of the home in Beggs; a son, KaRon E. Tate, Beggs, OK; 2 daughters, LaTasha K. & Steven Lawrence, Beggs, OK and Raven P. Tate, Tulsa, OK; 4 brothers, Corporal & LaQuita Tate, Jr., and Rodney D. & Pamela Tate, Beggs, OK, Roy Lee & Jackie Tate, Tulsa, OK and DAvid O. & Kim Tate, Sands Springs, OK; 4 sisters, Fay Etta & Billy Joe Demry, Marcella Diane Cottrell, Linda Sue Thomas and Elsie Marie Fields, all of Beggs, OK; 5 grandchildren; along with a caravan of other relatives and many friends who will miss him dearly.
The farewell for Mr. Tate will be on Saturday morning, June 30, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church-South in Beggs. Dr. Maurice Williams, the gracious host Pastor and Minister Bridgette Carter, associate minister with Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Plano, TX, will officiate.
The Christian committal will follow the service in the Beggs City Cemetery. You may visit "Poter", as he slumbers in the Chapel of Peace at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee on Friday from 12 Noon to 7 PM.
Casket bearers will be Dion Cottrell, Roderick Thompson, Sherard Tate, Gerald Thomas, Timothy G. Thompson and Darrell Redeau.
