On August 13, 1923, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, a bouncing baby girl was born to Obie King and Gunther Fain. They named their bundle of joy Ola Mae. She lost her mother at a very young age and she and her sister, Christine Elizabeth Baskervill had to relocate to Tulsa, Oklahoma with their Aunt Weeter and Uncle Sam Weaver. After a short stay with her aunt and uncle, Ola Mae was adopted by Rev. and Mrs. C.L. Netherland.
Ola Mae's educational journey began at Booker T. Washington Elementary School. She completed Carver Jr. High School and graduated from The Historic Booker T. Washington High School in 1941.
At a very young age, Ola Mae joined Paradise Baptist Church. She has been a member there, for over 75 years. She worked for many years in the Sunday School program serving as a teacher, and then as Superintendent of the beginners' department. She served in this position for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed this work. She also worked with the children's department for special events. Ola Mae was also a founding member of the Dorcaus Missionary Circle.
In 1941, she married her high school sweetheart, Clemo Willis Pierro. Three children were born into this union, Ray Vaughn Pierro (deceased), Janet Elizabeth Pierro (New York) and Yvonne Elaine Pierro Roberson (deceased). After several years of marriage Ola Mae devoted her life to her children as a single parent. She retired from Badger Meter after of 25 years of service.
She enjoyed working with Community Based Organizations, promoting activities that were designed to improve the quality of life in the North Tulsa community. She was a woman of strong determination; somewhat quiet but could be quite out-spoken and full of love and compassion.
