Obituary

Otelia Charles Garrett was born on March 27, 1921 in Boynton, Oklahoma from the union of John and Minnie [Powell] Charles. She was the eighth child of fourteen children born from this union.

Otelia attended Sugar Creek Elementary School and later the Moton High School in Taft.

Later in life, she met and married Luther Garrett and their union produced one child.

At an early age, Otelia united with the Wilson Chapel Baptist Church and later united with the Union Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado, where she remained a faithful member for Thirty-eight years.

After a lengthy illness, she moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to her family. In her 84th season, Otelia Charles Garrett dozed into Eternity on November 21, 2005 from the Grace Living Center in Oklahoma City. Our loss is Heaven's gain. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and four sisters.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory; her daughter, Jamesetta Clay, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a granddaughter, Carla Osborne, Grand View, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Shemeka [Adam] Jarrett, Fort Braggs, North Carolina, Cameron Horton and Lilla Ruth Warren, Grand View, Missouri; one great-great-grandchild, Brennan Jarrett; two sisters, Artelia Crenshaw, her twin sister, of Muskogee, Oklahoma and Irma Ruth Charles, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; special cousins, Rosetta Williams, Margarie Coley, Priscilla Kirkwood; a special friends, Ora Belle and Thelma; special nurse, Ronnie, the residents of Liggons Tower, where she resided for Twenty-eight years; and a caravan of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 701 Altamont in Muskogee. The Pastor, Reverend Vanzelen G. Brown will officiate. The Christian Committal will follow in the Cane Creek Cemetery at Boynton, Oklahoma. You may visit Mrs. Garrett as she slumbers at the funeral home on Friday from 12 Noon until 6 PM.
