On June 21, 1948, Clifton Carl Smith was born to O.C. and Azalee Smith in Prescott, AR., he would become their third of nine children.
As a child, Clifton along with his family lived in several locations in Arkansas and Missouri before finally settling in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In the summertime of 1962, Clifton met Burnita Hopkins and on March 25, 1967, they were married.
Clifton attended Tulsa Public Schools and Graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1967.
To provide for his growing family, Clifton worked as a forklift driver at Otasco Warehouse and later as a driver for Fourth National Bank, Mid-Continent Cement Company and Shelton Redi Mix until his retirement in 2021.
In May of 1976, Clifton joined Sunset Baptist Church and began his walk with God. He worked diligently in the church and passionately studied the word. In 1978, he accepted his call into the ministry. By 1982, Sunset Baptist Church had become Greater Faith Baptist Church and Rev. Clifton Smith Sr. accepted the charge of Youth. Pastor and later would become the Asst. Pastor. On May 28, 2017, Rev. Clifton Smith Sr. was installed as Senior Pastor of Greater Faith Baptist Church.
On Sunday, February 25, 2024, God said, "Well done my good and faithful servant" allowed his son to rest.
Clifton was preceded in death by his father, O.C. Smith Sr., his mother Azalee Smith and his brother, Alvin Smith Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Burnita Smith and five children: Terrie (Terry) Hill of Liberty, MO, Clifton Smith Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Evelyn McGee, Carlah Smith and Alaric Smith, all of Tulsa, OK. 14 grandchildren; Alisha, Equeecia, Brandon, Tiara (Adrian), Clifton III, Angelique, Jaydon, Burnita Ashely, Deborah, Huey IV, Asia (Kyle), Tekeyah, Keith and Cortez; 17 great grandchildren; Jashayla, Jamal, Terrieck, Elisha, Nevaeh, Major, Legacy, Myrra, Lexy, Yamie, Jaxson, Brenaisha, Xavier, A'Nina, Genesis, Bryson, Kasien and on great great- granddaughter, A'Sha. Clifton is also survived by seven siblings: Shirley McClendon of Raymore, MO., Richard (Lois) Smith of Tulsa, OK, O.C. Smith Jr., Ruby Cato, Gregory Smith, J. Renee Brinkley all of Tulsa, OK, Robert Smith of Dallas, TX, along with a host of other relatives and friends. He will also be missed by his Greater Faith Baptist Church Family.
The Farewell Tribute for Pastor Clifton C. Smith Sr., will commence on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the most holy sanctuary of Agape Outreach Ministries in Tulsa.
