Mr. Patrick Lee Garrett, Sr., after 58 years with us on Earth, is "Heaven Bound" as of Saturday evening, July 25, 2015 from Muskogee, Oklahoma.
It all began on August 18, 1956 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when a bouncing, baby boy was born to Leo Garrett and Jeanette Griffin Garrett. They named him Patrick Lee Garrett, better known to family and friends as "Pat."
Patrick grew up in Haskell and attended Haskell Public Schools. He graduated with the Class of 1975. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1977 and served his country honorably until 1980.
After his military service, he returned to Haskell for a while before moving to Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he met and then married Vanessa Nicholson. From this union, a son, Patrick Lee Garrett, Jr., was born.
Later in life, "Pat" met the former Mary Brown, and they were married on August 23, 1986. No children were born from this union but he acquired six beautiful children; four girls and two boys.
He also became a distinguished grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a "doting" grandfather to Erin Cole, who was very special to him and his grandson, Eddie Blackmon.
Mr. Garrett was employed at Whitlock Company in Fort Gibson, ACME Engineering in Muskogee and Haskell High School. He was a former member of Bethel AME Church and Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Muskogee. Patrick and Mary moved to Haskell, Oklahoma and became members of Eastside First Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor H. L. Stidham, where he remained a faithful member until his health began to fail. Patrick served the Lord in many capacities, including Deacon, Drummer, Sunday School Teacher as well as Sunday School Superintendent. He was even a Soloist at times. His hobbies included fishing, bowling and playing the drums.
Pat leaves to follow in his footsteps; his loving wife, Mary Brown Garrett, of the home in Muskogee, Oklahoma; his son, Patrick "PJ" Garrett, Jr.Erica]; two sons, Lee Lee and Quinton, his brother, Donnie Griffin [Jeanette], Tulsa, Oklahoma; his Uncle, Robert Sherman, who was also his best friend; four cousins, Deborah Motte, Diann Johnson, William Sherman and Anita Sherman; along with a host of other relatives and many friends.
The Memorial Celebration for " Pat " will commence on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Eastside First Baptist Church. Reverend Larry Pouncil, Pastor, will officiate.
