"Reflections Of A Lifetime"
Pearlie Bagby Smith was born on February 28, 1943 to Ozella Gray and Matthew "MT" Gould in Altus, Oklahoma.
Pearlie was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond Smith Sr. Both parents, Ozella Gray and Matthew "MT" Gould. Grandmother, Lula Hawkins. Her daughter, Sheila Renee Tyson and grandsons, Demarco Deion Bagby and Robert Johnson.
Her early childhood was spent in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she attended George Washington Carver grade school and was a majorette. From there she was a member of the 1961 graduating class of Booker T. Washington.
Pearlie was brought up in a loving home and was raised by her grandmother, Lula Hawkins. Pearlie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Bishop Young at First Church of God in Christ.
Pearlie was first wed to John Edward Bagby in July, 1960. With this union four beautiful children were born. Steven, Sheila, John Jr., and Tammy. They were loyal, dedicated parents. They encouraged and placed a high value on education, and made enormous sacrifices to ensure that their children's education came first in their home and the importance of education could not be overstated. Sadly, John preceded her in death in 1984.
In 1992 Pearlie later met and married Edmond Smith, a father of four (Ed Jr., Wayne, Jackie, and Bevilee). Four years later, they were blessed to raise their grandchild, D'Vontae' Tyson as a son, whom they adored. When asking D'Vontae' about his parents, his face lights up like the sun. He said, "We had good times. I enjoyed eating popcorn, a gallon of ice cream, and sneaking to Walmart late at night with mom." In 2005, Pearlie fell ill. Edmond was a loving, loyal husband that gave 110% to Pearlie's healthcare. He spent countless days and nights to make sure she had the best care, along with their daughter Tammy.
Pearlie was employed by the preeminent Tulsa Mayo Hotel. She was also employed by Nelson Electric- NMP Inc., as an electronic engineer. She was a professionally, trained caterer for The Camelot Hotel.
Pearlie was a beautiful, loving God fearing woman; her heart was full of so much love. She was greatly interested in the lives of her grandchildren, and looked forward to seeing them grow and change in the future. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and in return they loved her back. God blessed her to be a part of three sets of five generations. Pearlie loved life and enjoyed traveling, reading books, and interior decorating. She loved being outdoors and adored nature. She had many passions and interest in sports. Oh, and let's not forget...She was a Lakers and Dallas Cowboys fan. She would always say, "How bout dem Cowboys!"
