Obituary

Deacon Percival Pete Rowland, in his 75th year, dozed into eternal slumber on Wednesday afternoon, March 3, 2021 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

On September 5th 1945 a baby boy was born. They named him Percival, but was affectionately known as "Peter", and by his Grandmother, "Peter Rabbit".

Pete received his formal education in Muskogee, where he graduated from the Historic Manual Training High School, with the class of 1963. He had an affection and appreciation for music, and carried that passion to Langton University where he graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
He became the first Black Disc Jockey, in a 50,000 watt station with his own radio show which was known as "Peter C. in the Nighttime." As he grew older, he became a family man, and was employed at Fort Howard where retired after 25 years.

Pete joined Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age, under Reverend Tommy McFrazier where he remained a member over 65 years. His love for the Lord continued to grow under the mentorship of Pastor Larry H. Smith. He loved his church family and appreciated First Lady Sister Smith's guidance and friendship along with traveling and fellowshipping with other Christians. His love and desire for God continued to grow which led him on the pathway to become a Deacon, where he loved serving the Lord. He continued to serve the Lord until he was called home on March 3rd, 2021.

Pete was a family man, he loved his children, grandchildren, and his entire family, but most of all he loved the Lord. Pete will be truly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alto and Lonnie Rowland, his wife Rose Mike Rowland, his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his sister Jestyne Rowland-King.

He is survived by his devoted daughter Tracye Rowland-Pouncil, and a son Peter Michael Rowland, and Marquita Rowland of Muskogee, Oklahoma. One brother Doyle (Carsetta) Rowland of Muskogee, sisters Lonelia Rowland-Simmons(Muskogee) and Ida Rowland-Eubanks(Wichita, Kansas). His grandchildren, Blake, Brooke, Ty, and Clifford Trent, along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

The final hour with Pete will commence on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Macedonia Baptist Church.  His Pastor, Reverend Larry H. Smith, Sr., will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery.
