On December 5, 1942, Ray Hershell Bronw was born from the loving union of King and Marie Golden Brown, Sr. in Paris, Arkansas. He was the ninth of fourteen children.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers; Wallace, Lee Earl, Sr., Horace Chester, Leon [L.B.] Bruce, King Jr.,[Sampson], Louis, Author [Bud] and Bobby Glen [Bob].
Affectionately referred to as "Red Eye" by family and friends, Ray moved with his family to Sands Springs, Oklahoma and at an early age, accepted Christ and united with the Buford Colony Church of God in Christ. He remained a member throughout most of his adult years. He served on the Deacon Board and was supportive of many church endeavors. He especially liked playing the guitar.
Ray attended Sands Springs Public Schools. During his high school days, Ray was a kicker on the football team. He often told the story about being called teh boy with the "Golden Toe." He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School of Sands Springs, Class of 1961. After school, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country honorably. Ray was employed by Sheffield Steel for 35 years before his retirement in 2000.
He was the proud father of eight children; seven sons and one daughter.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his children, Andre [Carmen] and Darryl [Charlene], children of Evelyn Jean Wren; Derrick, Terrence [Barbara], Roderick, Darren [Elvira], Tremayne [Kunie] and Ray Nina [Angel], children of Cynthia Brown; sixteen grandchildren, LaTora, Andria, Anthony, Kendrah, Emanuel, Charleigh, Julien, Carrington, Aurielle, Justin, Toya, Jerae, Jada, Ismail, Rey C., and Levy; five sisters, Myrtle Chambers, Melinda Lucille Fields, Leota Marie Gibbs [Edward], Rose Ann Frazier [Alvin], and Stella Reynolds [Herbert]; a first cousin, Orlis Brownn, Sr. [Mickey]; along with a caravan of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The farewell will be on Wednesday morning, August 16, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the All Faiths Chapel of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Tulsa.
Burial will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens.
