Ray Lamont Davis Sr. was born October 13, 1930 to Fred and LeGusta Davis in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of four children. He was known by his close relatives as Baby Ray.
He attended school in Muskogee and graduated from The Historic Manuel Training High School. Ray loved to sing and entertain. At a young age he had the privilege to sing for President Truman. In high school he shared his talents through plays and songs. After graduation he joined a band as lead vocalist to charm the lives of Eastern Oklahoma. His melodious voice puts you in mind of the sound of Nat King Cole. This voice was shared in concerts, musicals, dances, weddings and the radio. Ray also had the opportunity to sing with one of his favorite groups "The Ink Spots" fulfilling a life-long childhood dream.
He met and married Thelma Jean Ray. They were blessed with seven children. He taught his children to love music and the arts. Ray lived with his sister Pandora Wilkerson and helped take care of his mother and sister until their deaths. He also enjoyed taking care of his nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews every day after school.
Ray is a proud member of Historic Ward Chapel AME Church where he was a member of the choir, custodian, and serving as a member of the Sons of Allen. He received many awards. His latest award was presented to him by the Muskogee Legacy Keepers in the category of Legions.
