On June 22, 1948, a baby boy was born to Lillian and Sanford Whitfield in Pierce, Oklahoma and was named Ray Whitfield.
Ray grew up in the Pierce community and attended Warrior and Pierce schools. He loved to fish and attend Church. Mr. Whitfield served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1967 until 1969.
In his 66th year, Ray Whitfield made his transition from Earth to Everlasting on March 8, 2015 from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father, Sanford Whitfield, a grandson, and three brothers, Ellis Greenleaf, Curry Whitfield and Calvin Whitfield.
He leaves to cherish his memory; a loving mother, Lillian Whitfield, of Checotah, Oklahoma; his daughter, Etta Ray Whitfield, Muskogee; his son, Manuel Ray Witfield, Enid, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Mischatewah and Dacee Alayna, both of Enid, Oklahoma; five sisters, Mary Dan, Checotah, Oklahoma, Linda Johnson, Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Glenda McCormick, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Helen Provost, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Carla Leonard, North Carolina; four brothers, Sanford Whitfield, Jr., Tulsa, Oklahoma, Derril Whitfield, Oklahoma City, Jerry Whitfield, Eufaula, Oklahoma, and Curtis [Jodi] Greenleaf, Checotah, Oklahoma; a special niece, Tracy McCormick, Tulsa, Oklahoma; a special aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Theodore Edmundson, [Auntie and Uncle Buddy]; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Memorial ceremony celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Morningstar Baptist Church, Warrior Community, west of Checotah, Oklahoma.
His ashes will be interred in the Warrior Cemetery after the Memorial Service.
