Obituary

On January 6, 1944, a baby boy was born to L. V. and Rosetta Henry. They named him Raymond Earl Henry.

Raymond grew up in Tullahassee, Oklahoma and attended Carter G. Woodson School, graduating with the Class of 1962. He gave his life to Christ Jesus under the ministering of Reverend James Singleton, Pastor of the United Temple Holiness Church. After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Callie Mae Buggs in 1964. From this union, two children were born; Kenneth Wayne and Lori Ann.

In 1970, Raymond and his family moved to Portland, Oregon after living in Tulsa. He was employed by Kentucky Fried Chicken and after several seasons, he moved back to Oklahoma. He met and married Cheryl Wilson in 1995.

Raymond recently retired from Porter Public Schools, where he worked in the Janitorial Department and also as a Bus Driver. He also performed seasonal work at Blackledge/Livesay Orchards. He learned the importance of work early in life.

"Ray", as he was affectionately called, enjoyed to fish and hunt. He really loved to sing and play his guitar. He joined with his sister and cousins and spread God's message in song. They formed the group "The Harps of David". He later went Solo, and helped with other singers. He rendered his services at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Porter, Oklahoma with Pastor Murphy. Ray had many favorite songs, including "I'm sending up my timber everyday."

Raymond "stepped up into Glory Land" doing what he liked best, singing and playing music on Monday morning, November 19, 2007 from Muskogee Regional Medical Center. He joins in Heaven, his parents, grandparents, and other relatives.

He leaves to remember his lifetime of memories; his wife, Cheryl Henry, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; his only daughter, Lori Ann Henry, Orange County, California; six brothers, Kenneth Ray Henry, Tulsa, Oklahoma, L. V. Henry, Jr., Ponca City, Oklahoma, Cecil Henry, Lawton, Oklahoma, Willie Henry, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Joel Henry, Muskogee, Oklahoma and Amos Henry, Lexington, Oklahoma; six sisters, Rena Corbitt, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mamie Maxwell, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Onetha Lyons, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Angelina Morgan, Marrietta, Georgia, Hester Dean, Marrietta, Georgia and Zetta Rose Gilford, Wagoner, Oklahoma; along with a caravan of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including the Porter Consolidated School System.
